Some salvaged projects...

A few weeks ago I got some really cute new Halloween stamps - and some new paper found its way into my cart last weekend....I was cleaning up the tiny crafting area I have Sunday and ran across a couple of cards I'd stamped the new images onto, just to see how they looked ... and never did anything else with them.  Decided I really should try to finish those up, even though I'd stamped directly onto the completely undecorated card base.  Why I didn't just use a piece of printer paper I can't tell you.  Sometimes I wonder about my!!

Anyway, here are my now finished projects - 2 using the new stamps and all using the new paper pad.  I also played around a little with my new Tim Holtz Scallops edge die.  Tim ROCKS!

The stamps are Impression Obsession's "Laundry Night" and "Birds on Broom"...the paper is from My Mind's Eye "Lost and Found - Union Square" 6x6 pad...LOVE this paper!!!

Do you know about Waltzingmouse Stamps???

Just love the stamp sets that WMS (Waltzingmouse Stamps) puts out...I don't have many sets yet but that will change for sure!
This month the "waltz" is to make a Halloween favorite season!

The first one uses the WMS Gingham & Co. stamp set...but next time there is a Halloween theme at WMS I will for sure have snagged some of Claire's Halloween themed sets, they are just awesome!

Today, we remember...

that freedom is not free.

This is a wonderful tribute found on the public domain and reposted on You-Tube, click the "freedom isn't free link" to see it.

So, today and every day, we remember with gratitude all those who have sacrificed; all those who gave their all so that we have freedom today; and all the families who have suffered and mourned as a result.  The count is high.  The list below does not include many other confrontations or actions where American soldiers paid the price so we could have the freedoms we have today.  (Source:  Wikipedia here.)

Grand total for
all conflicts:  1,343,812 deaths   1,529,230 wounded   38,159 missing

Some of the major ones:

World War I   116,516 deaths   204,002 wounded     3,350 missing

World War II   405,399 deaths   670,846 wounded   30,314 missing

Koren War       53,686 deaths     92,134 wounded     4,759 missing

Vietnam War    58,209 deaths   153,303 wounded     2,489 missing

Afghanistan        1,747 deaths      9,971 wounded           1 missing

Iraq War            4,430 deaths    31,965 wounded           2 missing

9/11 Attacks      2,977 deaths                  ?                             ?

And we remember also all those in the military, all our police and firefighters and all those who serve to protect and defend us and pray for their protection and safekeeping.

The Soldier
It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Pink & Black challenge...

This is another sister challenge we did a while back - this one was specifically because we wanted to try out a new toy - wooden frame spacers for the Cuttlebug that I found at Crop Stop (you can get them here, there is an oval one and a rectangular one and they both work great!)...then we added pink and black to the challenge just for fun.

Here's Pat's card:
And here's mine; this is one of my favorites; I love the colors, the birds, the polka dots, love it!  And I had just picked up the cute bird stamp at HL so of course had to try that out too!

Thanks for dropping by!

Another of our 'sister challenges'...

This time my sister did the challenge and it was to create a card with an embossed background and 4 embellishments.

Her card is first, isn't it gorgeous?  And then mine after!  I used some Martha Stewart flowers I had in my stash; some memory thread from Paper Wishes for the stems and a sun from a brad buddy set I also got from Paper Wishes...paper from stash.

Thanks for looking!

Holy Cow - time flies whether you are having fun or not!

Have had 'get back to the blogging' on my to-do list for ages but was shocked when I saw my last post was in January -- holy cow.  And while there has been a lot of fun going on since then, mostly there has been a lot of work stuff ... and after a full day on the computer at work a lot of times I just don't feel much like getting back online in the evenings...I'm betting some of you feel the same way!  But I have to stop the whining...which this blog has been doing ("Sam, where are you?  I'm LONELY, no one to talk to...") and I can't stand whining so I'm going to try to do better with this.

One of the fun things is a little card challenge my sister and I do with each other.  We take turns coming up with card challenges...just whatever we feel like.  Sometimes we are trying out a new gadget or punch, sometimes a new kind of paper or a new technique...we make the challenge, send pictures to each other and then start all over again.

For the rest of this year, we decided to make our challenge card but also to make a Christmas card of our choice...or we can meet the challenge with a Christmas card and satisfy our rule!

And we just finished my turn -- My challenge was to use paisley with the colors red and black.  So here are pictures of my sister's card; she took advantage of the two for one option and hers is a Christmas card also.  Then my cards -- the challenge card plus my Christmas one, which comes from a Paper Wishes card kit - so easy, love those kits!  Now we both want a punch that will cut the focal this Christmas card has!  Anybody know of one?
